Thank You

Recently I've started a new Facebook page of my hand made cards. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kims-Handmade-Cards/331282160391793?ref=bookmarks

Usually I'm not very good at self-promoting.  I would usually spend hours on making one card, putting it on the website, and then call it a day.  However, more and more I've come to realize that updating my card creations on Blogspot takes much more time than doing it on Facebook, a lot more popular place where almost every friend of mine with an account checks FB everyday. 

After making sure that they really like my cards and not just friendly supporting me and 'like', I decided to start a 'Page' under their wonderful encouragement.  I still don't want to annoy them so am trying to come up with fresh and new designs.  This way my friends in Taiwan, Singapore, USA, Australia as well as UAE can browse my creations more easily.    

So here, a Thank You card I made, with a slot that anyone who gets it can insert their own photo and make it a unique note to their recipients.

Thank You Card with Heart, Wings, Crown and Little Quirkiness (Part 1)

So it is the end of school term, the beginning of summer break and sleep-ins, the moment when mum's coffee/happy hours come to a halt, and the time not knowing where to take the bored kids to exhaust their inexhaustible energy...(which is impossible)

Still, some are happy, perhaps most happy of all are the faculty who finally do not have to handle our brats for a good period of time.  Come to think of it, during the whole term the teachers teach our little 4 year-olds common sense & knowledge, guiding them step-by-step to be good girls and boys, making sure they enjoy their school hours.  It's one of the hardest jobs in the world, and we all should be thankful to the teachers and their hard work.

Therefore last week, we parents decided to give the two teachers a present that everyone can chip in a little as well as Thank You cards that I volunteered to make. Very happy that my skill can be part of the token. :-)

This time no distressing at all.  I should stitch around the wood grain panel, but haven't even started reading the manual of my brand-new sewing machine yet.

Love the details on the blue embossed strip and the twine.

The gloss (clear embossing) on the crown could be done better with glossy accent. Need to buy it.

Love the golden music notes! 

Doily Card with Butterflies - Thank You

Several weeks ago I ordered some Cheery Lynn dies (which I've been drooling on for quite a while) from its official website.   And I must say for an international order they did an amazing job - my parcel was received within less than 10 days - faster than Amazon.com which usually takes about 14-25 days!

Besides the speedy delivery, I'm also quite happy with the quality. After a few adjustments I found out that it needs just one more piece of card stock paper with the cutting plates, the die can cut perfectly with Cuttlebug.  Here's the thing, different brands of dies have different ridge depth, therefore you'll have try out different thickness of sandwich boards/plates before finding a perfect one.  In the case of Cheery Lynn with 'my' Cuttlebug, just add one piece of paper to the A plate, two B plates and one C plate and it'll do the job nicely.

PS: Even with the same machine sometimes people have different results. So always test and see first.

So here it is, my result of the cheery Lynn doily on a Thank You card.  I also use Martha Stewart Monarch butterfly punch for the big butterfly, as well as my Silhouette Cameo for the smaller butterfly. (I have only one butterfly punch. Note to self: need to get some more. )

I hand draw the line on the Thank You label but it's not perfect. Always tell yourself : if it's perfect it's not handmade LOL

The colour of the doily in this picture is closer to reality, which is similar to the one of white coffee.

  

Thank You Card (Washi tape rocks!)

My Fourth Thank You card for the International Voluteer Managers is done.  Super easy!

Method
1. Make card base
2. Use 3-4 washi tapes and affix on a white panel, leaving a line space at about 3/5 distance from top of the panel.
3. Stamp Thank You.  Adhere piece to card base.

Thank You Card - For the International Volunteer Managers Day

Last week I met Renee Tan, a Singaporean mum whom I was chatting with when checking out at Made With Love, a popular and re-opened scrap-booking store in Singapore.  It makes me realize just how friendly (and chatty, HA!) scrap-booking people are in general.  Scrap-booking people are usually generous too, and so is Renee.  

During chatting she mentioned there's a Make a Card for the Needing group founded by her friend that I may be interested.  To be honest, I've heard of International Volunteering Day, but not International Volunteer Managers Day.  But this lady is someone Renee knows so should be ok. And with all the money spent on card-making it's really time to make some cards for a good cause.  So I said to myself to make four of the same Thank You cards and send to the founder.  

However, when starting making a second Thank You card I realize I don't really like making same cards. (Not good for business if I ever want to start one. But now it's still a vague idea so meh) So I went along and made 2nd and 3rd cards, of different designs.

First Card 

With the first card the only thing requiring a tool to make is the old typewriter, which I used the "sketch" function of Silhouette Cameo. It's really cool to see the machine work its pace and come up with a beautiful drawing, and then cuts it out flawlessly! I also used a glitter sketch pen so the drawing has really cool shimmer in the lines.

Second Card

With the second card, there was not any special tool needed to make, The only thing is the flower tag, which I made it myself using a Crop-a-Dile to punch smalls, and the flower washi tape from mt. (a Japanese washi tape manufacturer)  

Third Card

I'm happy with the layout of every one of them. But I'm particular fond of the third one simply because the tag tail is just too cute especially with the the twine tangles!  And that was an idea I thought would be fun to make, and it turned out great.


As my plan goes, I should be able to make the fourth one (in progress) within deadline.  Maybe I'll copy one of the previous designs to save time.  But anyways, Hip hip hooray!

THANK YOU card with washi tape / 用washi tape 做的感謝卡

Washi tapes are so hot now for good reasons.  They are versatile, easy to work with and create cool effects on any craft projects.  This Thank You card is one of them and is super easy to make.  No need to emboss, stamp or any tool to make it work (But yes you still need a trimmer and scoring board to make the job easier.)

Materials:
Card stock, twine, "Thank You in international languages"washi tape(MT brand).

1. Make white card base from cardstock
2. Make a patterened panel from card stock and adhere to card.
3. Make a wide red strip of card from cardstock. (I chose a pre-embossed red cardstock but you can use a non-embossed one)
4. position and stick Thank You washi tape on a piece of white strip, then adhere to the red strip. Adere to card
5. Wrap twine onto card and make a bow.

I love the high quality and design of MT tapes. They can be extremely handy in wrapping gifts as well.
